Thoughts and Ramblings

Getting close to Halloween 2016, where ya been Ghostess??

So, I finally have my own office/workspace with a DOOR to spend time creating my Halloween stuff and things for my Etsy store.  I moved Emily to Brandon's room and I took her room to be my space.  I've been spending some time in here, trying to get a starting point for working on props and stuff for this year's display.  I decided against having the party again this year as it just isn't financially feasible at this time.  I also took vacation, 12 days of no work to leave the house for, so I can devote most of my time to Halloween goodness.

I no longer work two jobs, so that's a plus.  I also recently got a promotion at work and moved to the daytime shift of normal people.  I'm still adjusting to being able to sleep in full blocks of time instead of a couple of hours here and there between work and home life.  I haven't spent as much time actually working on props or anything, but I have been doing a lot of jotting down notes, sketches and what-not for ideas for the future, especially next year's party.  I think I'm still suffering from burnout, mainly because I feel like I just can't top the last party's success, or give everyone something different and better every year.  It's a lot of stress of my own doing, because I think in my head that I HAVE to do better, bigger, MORE every year.  But now I have a whole year to work on it, and more time to devote to it, so I am confident that 2017  will be amazing.

Right now I'm concentrating on fixing and facelifting most of my old props that have suffered damage or aged ungracefully.  It's not October 26th, and I don't even have the first decoration out in my yard!  The good thing about my display though, is that it is simple to set up, and my family know what goes where and how to make it happen, so we can set up the bulk of it in one afternoon, and the next day I can tweak it with some details and lighting.  I might even be able to convince a friend or two to help us this weekend.

Speaking of friends...... A dear old friend of mine asked me to do an interview for his blog last weekend, discussing Halloween and all the fun stuff I do for it:

Give his blog a peek, he's a pretty darn good writer, and covers some interesting subject matter.

And on that note, I am ready to mix up some more paper pulp clay, and get dirty!

The Dead End

Ghostess in a nut shell

I'm a home/yard/party haunter, decorating the entire house to the hilt (except the kids' bedrooms) and spilling out into the back yard on the pool deck. The front yard gets a full cemetery and is the main attraction. It's just a static display, with the classic FCG and plenty of tombstones and stuff. I am the only actor for Halloween, usually scaring the bejeezus out of people by sneaking up behind them and screaming or standing in the cemetery, still as a statue so the ToT's wonder if I'm real or just another creation. Then I simply turn my head toward them. Scares the teens really nicely. :)

I throw a huge party that grows larger and larger every year as well, which is why I decorate so heavily in the house.

I run the Florida Haunters Forum and website in addition to my own Halloween site.
Other than Halloween stuff, I like geocaching, jogging, yard work, beachcombing, reading novels, and photography. I live with my husband, Tom, who loves that I'm a Halloween weirdo and geek, and I have 3 kids who also like to help out with my projects and are artistic in their own right (Brandon, Taylor and Emily). I'm really REALLY shy and I'm usually pretty darn quiet around people I don't know well. Oh yeah, and I like beer. :)

That's pretty much all that's noteworthy... or at least what will be on my obituary when I croak.

Haunt ON!

Well, I learned yesterday that my room mate is going to be skipping the last IS ever due to her son graduating college on the 26th of June. SO.... now I need a room mate to split the cost of a hotel room.

Any takers? The only thing is you HAVE to be female. And NO, Steve, the Solo cups under the shirt do NOT make you female.

Morning, I may be traveling to Tampa in the coming months and was wondering if there are any good Halloween prop stores there?

Thanks for the warm welcome. It seems like I'll be happy here.

I love your cemetery posts. I really need to come up with something similar this year. I need to put up some fence to block the TOT's from running up and down the hill as well as protecting some props.

Hey Ghostess! Your cemetery photos are terrific and a perfect tombstone reference source. Thanks for sharing them! The lounging bucky image had me laughing out loud... :) Are you entertaining any new props/projects for this season?

Thanks to you Deanna I made papier-mâché box rocks to hide my floodlights for 2007, after Halloween this year I took a box cutter and carefully remove the cardboard box and all of the paper stuffing. After making my pumpkin head and finding out how hard of a shell the wood glue makes I am going to put 3 new layers on the inside using the water, flour and exterior wood glue.
I think this will really lighten the rock, they weighed a ton, and they were heavy as rocks ha, ha.
I'm issue around here and on yahoo I work retail fur 11- 1/2 years and it was the longest 11-1/2 years of my life, at least if you're a night stalker you don't really have to deal with the public.
