My clutz of a dog just convinced me to go to 12v LEDs next year. No injuries, but CFLs are not the best idea after all. :/

I've been doing haunts on the small scale since high school. Of course I had no idea what I was doing was "haunting" as we now know it. Regardless it laid the foundation. But college and then 4 years living in an apartment that saw no TOTs put my Halloween stuff on indefinite hold.

In April 2007 we bought our first home and something clicked and I jumped back into Halloween full blast. I had a great time and my neighbors loved it. And so began Lost Lake Cemetery.

From here on out, it'll get bigger and better each year. I'm having a blast doing it.

Thanks to Dan Blakeslee (www.danblakeslee.com) for his permission to use his art for my profile photo. It was too perfect to pass up. :)

Another one down.

And so ends another Halloween season and our third edition of Lost Lake Cemetery. And now the recap. Get comfortable, this may get long.

Overall, we had a good night but it wasn’t without its flaws. During my final sound check Saturday, about two hours before game time, my main receiver/amp powering my beloved GoE Dark Soundscapes music started flashing “PROTECTOR” on the display followed immediately by the dreaded wisp of blue smoke. Oh shit. Thankfully the receiver in Mantown was not needed t… Continue

A different type of circus inspiration

(per request by Pete)

Kari and I went to Barnum and Bailey's circus last night and had a blast. This one part of the show had this bizarre, Cirque de Soliel-feeling jungle theme going that had the clowns all carrying around these UV reactive giant flowers and such and I got a moment of haunt inspiration from this. I leaned over to Kari and asked, "Is it wrong that this just gave me a strange haunt idea?"

She rolled her eyes. LOL!

Anyway, I have no way to ever pull this off or the storage spac… Continue

And we're off!

I just finished setting up 2 sections of fence, 10 gravestones and a green flood light on a timer on the front hill.

Game on! }:)

Improving my old lanterns

I decided the other night to see if I could improve upon my old lanterns from the past 2 years. They were a quick hack of some cheap electric lanterns into which I threw 5 ultrabright, green LEDs in a start formation (or a pentagram, if you're so inclined) with the LEDs pointing outward from the center. I noticed the old solar lights sitting on my shelf that I had gutted last year for the breakbeam and got to pondering the plastic unit they employ to scatter and diffuse the LED light. Could this… Continue

Productive day

Today's been a pretty good day in the world of haunt building. I've gotten most of the reaper's robe dyed, though I think they could use a second round. Interestingly, soaked in 2x strength black dye, burlap turns kind of a dark grey. It actually looks pretty cool and I think it may actually work better than full-on black under haunt lighting conditions. I ran out though before I was done so I picked up 2 more bottle of Rit dye tonight. That'll get me 6 gallons of the stuff I used today which sh… Continue

If you need some kind of a standard cable try this place:

http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

Good prices and quality cables - Shipping might be an issue though, when I order from them it's never taken more that 3 days but they are on the same coast I am

I tried using a torch on my pallet wood this year and it looks great. There's some pics in my photo album of it. Only bad part is it doesn't show up well in the black light like i thought it would.

I use these 3 to rip those pallets apart and I usually get to use the full pieces. Saves on the saw and blades too since many of the pallets are treated with gunk. Free wood is awesome though!!!

Yes used from a fellow haunter that is not going to be able to haunt due to health issues. I also got tones of other stuff but the bucky I am really proud of. Also got an extra pair of legs and arms with it.
