Is it me or is Halloween getting shrunk?

On the last few outings to department stores and local stores (Halloween specific excluded) I've noticed that Halloween seems to be gettign downsized..

By downsized I mean that the props/decorations themselves are smaller than previously, and there are not as many too. The candy section in some cases eclipses the actual Halloween related merchandise section. And there really isn't as much in the way of reasonable quality selections.

So I ask you , have you noticed this too ?

This maybe the last good year for Halloween for a while.
I will always put as much time and money that I can swing, into Halloween.
But I fear over-all they are taking this holiday away from the kids.
That really sucks for the kids.
Christmas... Bah Humbug!

Yes, you're totally right. Last year Orchard Supply actually had 2 full aisles of H stuff, some not bad either, like 6ft latex skeletons, etc. This year, 1 freestanding shelf at the front of the store and that's it. Weirdly, since Halloween had been on pace to be a $4 billion spending season this year... well, before the bottom dropped out of the economy anyways.....

I agree, it's why we build all our props. We like the actual size, super realistic stuff which you just can't find / and or afford. Our Home Depot has all their Christmas stuff out already!

I saw Frankenberry & Booberry at Target last night when we were there! :-)

*sigh* its all about the bottom line peeps...these companies can't afford to pump out the quality products we were used to. A good example... WHERE IS THE FRANKENBERRY AND BOOBERRY CEREAL!!! :(

I agree with the shrinking stuff. I want my decorations and props to be adult human scale. Not the size of a three year old. When I built my toe pincher coffin earlier this week it was 7ft long. If I made it to the scale of the stuff I've seen this year it would be like three feet long. What gives? Same goes for tombstones, etc. Guess that's why we end up building everything.

Usually Target has some out of the ordinary Halloween pieces, but this year I walked out without picking up anything. Our local Party Store still had some good stuff, so I did most of my shopping there.
