I started carving the 1st of my new stones on the foam cutting table. I needed to take a break so this is as good time as any to post a "in progress" pic.
I still have a LONG way to go, adding detail, relief, etc but here it is so far.

It stands four feet tall, and I still need to start the base for it. Width is just about 2', and thickness is 4"
More progress. Man I love a sunny, warm day in the garage!

And now the 1st round of finish sanding is done, and I think it's starting to look right. Lot's of detail yet to add!

Buttons!!!

There's still a lot of wonk in this trinity knot that needs to sanded out, but I don't think I can get the whacky out until it's glued to the stone (so I can see exactly what needs to be adjusted).
So here it is, wonk and all:

So the base was a bit more complex than I thought it would be, but it's off to a good start. I needed a sandwich of (2) innner pieces of 2" foam, and (2) outer pieces of 1 1/2" foam. the inner pieces needed a 2" deep notch at the top, dead center, to create a mortise for the top stone, whose base acts as a tenon. This leaves a consistent 1" reveal at the bottom of the top stone (to match the edge routed 1" reveal).

Once the 7 inchesworth of foam were glued up and marked off I ran the whole block through the foam saw. I was worried this might be pushing it, but with a .22 wound string and about 85% power it worked like a charm! I can't wait to get to routing/detailing so the pieces look unified. So ,much work yet to do...
And more work is done! The base is rough sanded and routed. time for more sanding and more details...

FLASH FORWARD!
And months later, I actually painted the thing!
